Boston University (BU) clinched its 32nd Beanpot championship title with a thrilling 4-1 victory over top-ranked Boston College (BC) in Monday’s Dunkin’ Donuts Beanpot tournament at TD Garden. Freshman goalie Mikhail Yegorov starred in the decisive win, making 43 saves and helping his team overcome an early deficit to claim the coveted title.
The game marked a turning point for BU, as the Terriers finally found their footing after a rocky start. Down 1-0 midway through the first period, the team regrouped and responded with a flurry of chances, ultimately tying the game at 2-1 in the second period. A pair of goals from freshman forwards Brandon Svoboda and Cole Hutson sealed the win for BU, who outshot BC 37-26.
The Beanpot rivalry between BU and BC is one of the most storied in college hockey, with Monday’s matchup marking the 298th meeting between the two teams in the tournament.
