The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has issued a recall for the BowFlex branded Model 552 and 1090 adjustable dumbbells due to a risk of handle plate dislodgment, posing an impact hazard. The affected products were sold in pairs and single units in black and include handles, weight plates, and a molded plastic tray.
Approximately 3,844,200 units are affected, with model numbers ranging from 00182M243902233 to X00748SFE233203161. Consumers should stop using the recalled dumbbells immediately and contact Johnson Health Tech Trading for a refund or replacement. A prorated voucher and a one-year JRNY digital fitness membership may be offered for units sold by BowFlex Inc.
There have been 12 reports of plate dislodgment during use, with no injuries reported in the affected units sold by Johnson Health Tech Trading. In contrast, Nautilus received 337 reports, including 111 resulting in injuries such as concussions and broken toes.
The recall is part of a broader effort by CPSC to protect consumers from unreasonable risk of injury associated with thousands of consumer products. Consumers can report a dangerous product or product-related injury on www.SaferProducts.gov or contact the CPSC’s Hotline at 800-638-2772 (TTY 800-638-8270).
