Boxing Legend George Foreman Dies at 76

US heavyweight boxing legend George Foreman has died at the age of 76, according to a statement on his Instagram account. The two-time champion fought Muhammad Ali in one of the sport’s most legendary fights, known as “The Rumble in the Jungle”. Foreman was also famous for promoting electric grills and had a colourful life outside of boxing.

Born in Texas in 1949, Foreman won gold at the 1968 Olympics before turning pro and becoming heavyweight champion. He fought Muhammad Ali twice, with his first loss being one of the most iconic upsets in sports history. However, Foreman staged an incredible comeback, winning the IBF and WBA titles in 1994.

After retiring from boxing, Foreman became a minister and ordained pastor, while also building a successful business empire through his range of kitchen appliances. He had 12 children with multiple partners and was known for his jovial personality and enduring faith.

Foreman’s death has been met with tributes from fellow boxers, including Mike Tyson, Chris Eubank Jr, and former NBA star Earvin “Magic” Johnson. President Donald Trump also paid homage to Foreman, calling him a “great fighter” and a “great person”.
