A 7-year-old boy from rural Zimbabwe was found alive after being missing for five days in a game park inhabited by big cats. He was reported missing on December 27, but a massive search operation involving park rangers and local community members was hindered by heavy rainfall.
The boy’s survival is attributed to his resourcefulness and knowledge of surviving techniques. Despite walking through harsh terrain for 49 kilometers with no food or water, he managed to find wild fruits and dig small holes in dry river banks to access underground water.
He was located on December 31 after human footprints were discovered a day earlier. The boy has since been reunited with his family and received medical treatment at local clinics and hospitals.
The Zimbabwean Parliament member, Mutsa Murombedzi, praised the bravery of park rangers and the tireless efforts of the local community in finding the boy. She attributed his survival to an ancient technique used in drought-prone areas to access underground water.
The Matusadona National Park, which is home to a diverse range of wildlife, including lions, elephants, and antelopes, was once known for having one of the highest lion populations in Africa.
