Researchers have made a groundbreaking discovery that shows the brain’s language processing mirrors the internal steps used by artificial intelligence (AI) systems. A new study has revealed that the timing of the brain’s responses to speech is similar to the sequence of transformations inside large language models.
Scientists recorded direct brain signals from nine volunteers and compared them with AI systems, finding a close match in the inferior frontal gyrus region of the brain. The researchers also tested classic language features made by hand, but these tools fell short of matching the brain’s timing pattern seen with AI layers.
