Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Jacob Misiorowski made his major league debut on Thursday night, throwing a stellar game that showed the world what he’s capable of. Misiorowski, 23, pitched six innings without allowing a hit, striking out five and walking four.
The right-hander’s velocity was a key factor in his success, with Statcast tracking 14 of his 81 pitches reaching at least 100 mph. That includes three pitches that reached speeds of over 102 mph, the fastest by any Brewers starter since pitch tracking began in 2008.
Misiorowski’s performance is not surprising, given his impressive velocity during his stint in Nashville’s Triple-A affiliate last month. He threw a 103 mph pitch, the fastest recorded by a true starter in the majors or minors since Statcast began tracking in 2015.
Despite having four walks and cramping up in the sixth inning, Misiorowski insisted he didn’t realize he had a no-hitter going when he took the mound for the sixth. He said he thought one of the popups landed and exited the game due to calf and quadriceps cramps.
Milwaukee manager Pat Murphy praised Misiorowski’s performance, calling him “impressive every way you look at it.” Left-hander Aaron Ashby, who earned his third career save in relief, echoed those sentiments, saying Misiorowski is ready for the challenge of building on this impressive debut.
