A British couple, Craig and Lindsay Foreman, 52, have been detained in Iran on unspecified security charges while on a motorbike trip across the world. The couple’s family has expressed concern over their safety and wellbeing, urging their safe return.
The Foremans were arrested in January but news of their detention emerged this week when Iranian state-run media reported their holding. They had planned to be in Australia for only five days, having crossed into Iran from Armenia on December 30.
Lindsay Foreman, a life coach with a doctorate in psychology, and her husband Craig, a carpenter, had described their joy at being in Iran in social media posts before their detention. The Iranian authorities have not disclosed the nature of the charges against them.
The Foreign Office is providing consular assistance to the couple and has warned British nationals about the risks of travel to Iran. Over the past few years, dozens of foreign and dual nationals have been arrested on vague security-related charges, often for political leverage.
The Foremans’ family has expressed support and encouragement from friends, family, and the community during this difficult time. They are working with the British government to secure their safe return.
