British Tourist Faces Death Penalty for Meth Smuggling in Thailand

A 23-year-old British tourist, George Wilson, is facing the death penalty after allegedly trying to smuggle 9kg of methamphetamine out of Thailand. He told police he received a package from a British drugs runner called ‘snoopy’ and was paid £460 to carry the narcotics to another country.

Wilson was found with the significant quantity of amphetamine in a Bangkok hotel room on Monday evening. The Thai authorities claim he collected the drugs from another Briton in Thailand’s red-light area, known for its nightlife and sex trade. Cops swooped on Wilson at Le Fenix on Sukhumvit Soi 11 after being tipped off.

The young Brit was heard saying he had been in Thailand for “two weeks” when questioned by police, but refused to know what was in the bag. A chemical test confirmed the substance inside was methamphetamine.

Wilson is set to appear in a Thai court on October 1 and remains in custody until then. The arrest has raised concerns about cross-border drug smuggling networks in the region.
