The TV broadcast landscape has been facing significant challenges in recent years, but the 2024-25 season has brought some much-needed rays of hope. Despite ongoing corporate consolidation and the rise of streaming as the primary platform for viewers, several network shows have achieved breakout status. Each of the big four broadcasters – ABC, CBS, Fox, and NBC – can claim at least one success story among their first-year series.
Recognizable IP remains a key factor in the broadcast industry’s survival, with many networks relying on franchises and spinoffs to drive ratings. CBS will be filled with franchise content in 2025-26, while ABC is developing a Nashville-set 911 spinoff. Other spinoff projects are also in development at both networks.
