Renowned Broadway actress and star of the iconic TV sitcom ‘Alice,’ Linda Lavin, has passed away at the age of 87. She won two Golden Globe Awards and an Emmy nomination for her role as a waitress and single mom on ‘Alice.’
Lavin’s extensive career in theater spanned multiple productions including Neil Simon’s “Last of the Red Hot Lovers” (1969) and his play “Broadway Bound,” which earned her the Tony Award for best actress. She also appeared in numerous films, including “The Muppets Take Manhattan” (1984), “A Short History of Decay” (2014), and “Nancy Drew and the Hidden Staircase” (2019).
Before ‘Alice,’ Lavin had already gained recognition for her stage work, including performances on Broadway and in Off-Broadway productions. Her television career took off with recurring roles on shows like “Barney Miller” and guest appearances on numerous other series.
Lavin is survived by her husband Steve Bakunas, an actor and musician. She was also an accomplished theater director and founder of the Red Barn Theater in Wilmington, N.C.
