“Broadway’s ‘All In’: A Hilarious Anthology of Love”

Romantic comedies have been scarce on Broadway lately, but “All In” fills the void with a clever anthology of comedy writing. The show features short humor pieces by Simon Rich, performed script-in-hand by a rotating cast of actors.

The production, directed by Alex Timbers, has an intimate feel reminiscent of a live reading at The New Yorker. Set designer David Korins creates a sophisticated literary-bohemian atmosphere, while Emily Flake’s illustrations add a touch of whimsy to the space.

John Mulaney shines in three standout pieces: “Guy Walks Into a Bar,” “Learning the Ropes,” and “The Big Nap.” His comedic timing is impeccable, bringing humor to unexpected places. Richard Kind also impresses as the central character in two other pieces, including “Case Study” and “New Client.”

Fred Armisen provides a droll spin to Death and several other characters, while RenĂ©e Elise Goldsberry brings a unique energy to her roles. The show’s musical component features Stephin Merritt’s songs with a five-piece band, adding variety to the performance.

With its talented cast and clever writing, “All In” is a delightful treat for audiences looking for a lighthearted evening before Valentine’s Day. Despite its limited run, the show has plenty of humor and heart to go around.
