Brock Bowers has shattered a rookie record for tight ends held by “Iron” Mike Ditka for over six decades. On Sunday, Bowers set a new mark in the Las Vegas Raiders’ 25-10 win over the New Orleans Saints. With just 10 yards needed, Bowers secured a 13-yard reception off an Aidan O’Connell pass, surpassing Ditka’s record of 1,076 set in 1961.
Bowers also broke Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua’s rookie receptions record, which lasted only one season. The rookie tight end finished with seven catches for 77 yards and 108 receptions for 1,144 receiving yards on the season.
This achievement comes after Bowers recorded his 100th catch last week, becoming just the third rookie tight end to do so, joining Ditka and Kyle Pitts of the Atlanta Falcons. The Raiders’ recent struggles have been overshadowed by Bowers’ outstanding performance, providing a glimmer of hope for the team’s season ahead.
Bowers has cemented his place in NFL history with this record-breaking grab, moving above legendary figures like Ditka and Nacua in the records book.
