The Denver Broncos have named former New Orleans Saints special teams coordinator Darren Rizzi as their new Special Teams Coordinator/Assistant Head Coach. Rizzi joins Sean Payton’s coaching staff, bringing over 30 years of NFL experience to the team.
Rizzi spent three seasons with the Saints from 2019-21, developing a reputation for excellence in special teams. His units consistently ranked among the top half of Rick Gosselin’s annual rankings, and he coached multiple Pro Bowl players, including safety J.T. Gray and kicker Wil Lutz.
Before joining the Saints, Rizzi spent 10 years with the Miami Dolphins, where he developed a pair of Pro Bowl players in punter Brandon Fields and long snapper John Denney. He also has experience as a head coach, serving stints at D-II New Haven and Rhode Island.
Rizzi, a graduate of Rhode Island University, played tight end during his collegiate career. With his extensive experience and proven track record, Rizzi is expected to bring a high level of expertise to the Broncos’ special teams unit.
