Brown University Shooting Leaves 2 Dead, 9 Injured

Brown University’s campus is still reeling from a deadly shooting on Saturday that left two students dead and nine others injured. Authorities are searching for the shooter and have released a person of interest who was detained early Monday morning. Despite releasing the individual, officials say there’s no immediate threat to the campus.

The victims include Mukhammad Aziz Umurzokov, an 18-year-old freshman, who was killed in the shooting. Nine students were treated for gunshot injuries at Rhode Island Hospital and six are currently in critical but stable condition. The university has canceled all classes for the rest of the semester and is providing support to the families of the victims.

President Donald Trump has spoken out on the investigation, saying it’s “moving along now” but expressing his lack of knowledge about the shooter’s motive. The FBI has an online portal where people can submit footage or tips that could aid in the investigation.

Students are worried about campus safety, and some have expressed frustration with the delayed alert system that went into effect after the shooting. Authorities say they’re reviewing security footage to find any new leads on a suspect. Despite this, officials maintain that there’s no reason to believe anyone in Providence is unsafe.

The university has taken steps to ensure student safety, including loaning computers to those who lost access to their laptops and providing additional security measures. The investigation remains ongoing, with authorities following multiple leads.
