Cleveland Browns general manager Andrew Berry worked tirelessly to land Sheduer Sanders in the 2025 NFL draft. According to ESPN’s Daniel Oyefusi, Berry made a successful trade by moving up 22 spots from pick 166 to select Sanders at spot 144. The Browns partnered with the Seattle Seahawks, sending picks No. 166 and 192 to secure the quarterback.
NFL scout Ian Rapoport noted that Sanders was highly sought after by the Philadelphia Eagles, who picked at 145. However, general manager Howie Roseman declined to confirm if they would have used their pick on Sanders. The Browns’ selection of Sanders was widely praised as a steal, with Berry citing “best player available” and position value as key factors in his decision.
The Browns had also taken Dillon Gabriel in the third round, leading some to question the use of multiple picks for quarterbacks. However, Berry argued that using multiple draft picks to address quarterback is not the worst idea, given the team’s history of struggles finding a long-term solution at the position. If Sanders develops into a quality starting quarterback, the Browns’ decision will be vindicated.
The aggressive trade move by Berry has been credited as a success, with many hailing it as a steal considering Sanders’ original projected draft status in the first round.
