Browns quarterback Bailey Zappe is excited about the prospect of playing in his first game with the team, potentially in Week 18 against the Ravens. Coach Kevin Stefanski has not yet decided whether Zappe or Dorian Thompson-Robinson will start, but both quarterbacks could see playing time.
Zappe, who joined the Browns from the Chiefs practice squad in Week 8, has impressed offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey with his progress as he learns the team’s offense. “He’s prepared like he’s been a starter,” Dorsey said. “We’ve got faith in that room.”
In 14 career games, Zappe has completed 63% of his passes for 2,053 yards and 11 touchdown passes, while also throwing 12 interceptions. He has had the opportunity to work with top pass catchers like Jerry Jeudy and Elijah Moore, who have helped him develop a rapport with the receivers.
Thompson-Robinson, who has started two games this season, has struggled at times but has shown determination to overcome adversity. Coach Stefanski plans to keep working with Thompson-Robinson to help him grow as a player, but will make his final decision on the starting quarterback later in the week.
The Browns have one more practice on Thursday before traveling to Baltimore for their game on Saturday. With both quarterbacks vying for playing time, the team is eager to evaluate where each has progressed in their short time in the NFL.
