Browns’ QB Options Complicated by High-Risk Contracts

The Cleveland Browns’ signing of Joe Flacco with a $3 million guaranteed deal has tempered their ability to pursue other quarterbacks in the draft. Flacco’s contract, combined with Kenny Pickett’s fully guaranteed $2.623 million and Deshaun Watson’s massive $46 million guarantee, totals $51.623 million for 2025.

However, this doesn’t necessarily rule out adding another quarterback. The Browns need three players on their active depth chart, and a rookie would be a low-cost option. With Watson unlikely to play due to his contract, the team may consider drafting a quarterback in any round or trading back into the first round.

There’s also a possibility that Flacco or Pickett could be traded if the Browns make another move at the position. After the draft, they might still have needs elsewhere and can flip one of these quarterbacks if it makes sense. The main obstacle is Deshaun Watson’s contract, which creates a significant challenge for the team to address their most important position.
