The Browser Company has halted active development of its popular Arc web browser in favor of a new, AI-focused product called Dia. The company’s CEO, Josh Miller, explained that Arc was deemed too complex and lacking cohesion, making it less appealing to users. In contrast, Dia is designed to learn from users’ interactions and provide more intelligent features, such as completing tasks like writing the next sentence in a paragraph or suggesting Amazon links for emails.
While Arc will continue to receive security updates, new features are unlikely. Dia, on the other hand, has been tested via an alpha build and will soon become available to current Arc members. The company has considered open-sourcing Arc, but is hesitant due to its internal SDK also being a core component of Dia. Miller acknowledges that this could impact the future release of an open-source version of Arc.
