Bruins Struggle Against Vegas, Fall Behind Early and Often

The Boston Bruins struggled to get going in their latest game against the Vegas Golden Knights. The first period was largely uneventful, with the only notable play coming when Mark Stone tripped Johnny Beecher. However, it was not a penalty that would ultimately change the course of the game.

In the “Hell Periods,” which refer to the second and third periods, Pavel Dorofeyev took over. He scored twice in the first period, including a wrist shot past Jeremy Swayman, and added another goal late in the period. The Golden Knights continued to capitalize on Boston’s mistakes, with Brett Howden and Jack Eichel also scoring.

The game ended 5-1 in favor of the Golden Knights, with Morgan Geekie scoring the Bruins’ only goal in the final minutes. The loss marked the team’s fifth consecutive game without reaching 20 shots on goal. This is a first for the franchise since tracking the stat began.

Goalie Jeremy Swayman was particularly struggling, posting an .884 SV% that many would consider poor. However, it’s worth noting that he faced a daunting task in trying to stop one-timers from one side of the ice with near impunity.

The Bruins’ lackluster performance has led some to wonder if they are ready for the playoffs. With their current draft position and prospect pool, it seems unlikely that David Pastrnak will make the postseason.

Boston will look to bounce back against the San Jose Sharks on Saturday. The game is set to start at 10:30pm EST.
