Two members of K-pop powerhouse BTS have completed their mandatory military service, prompting fan frenzy and anticipation for their comeback. RM and V were discharged on Tuesday and greeted fans with salutes and a saxophone performance.
Fans, some of whom flew in from overseas, gathered outside Hybe’s headquarters in central Seoul to celebrate the return of the two K-pop idols. Many were dressed in purple, BTS’ signature color, and carried large banners and photographs of RM and V.
The military service was mandatory for all able-bodied men aged 18 to 28 in South Korea, a country that requires its citizens to be ready to fight. With their discharge, all seven members are expected to complete their military service by the end of this month, fueling speculation about a reunion.
In recent years, BTS has become one of the most successful K-pop acts globally, topping charts and breaking records in various fields. The band’s name means “Bulletproof Boy Scouts” in Korean and they have used their platform to advocate for youth issues, including mental health.
Their fans, known as ARMY, have been eagerly waiting for their return, with many planning trips from abroad to celebrate. The group had previously won a deferral, but the others followed Jin’s lead and enlisted last year. With RM and V back, BTS is expected to make their comeback soon, much to the delight of their fans worldwide.
