Boston University’s men’s ice hockey team secured its record 32nd Beanpot title, defeating top-ranked Boston College 4-1. The Terriers got goals from three freshmen – Brandon Svoboda, Cole Hutson, and Cole Eiserman – while Mikhail Yegorov made a 43-save performance en route to the victory. Gavin McCarthy added an empty netter to seal the win, and Hutson was named the Steve Nazro Most Valuable Player Award recipient.
The Eagles dominated the opening period but held only a 1-0 lead after Svoboda tied the game at 5:43 mark of the second. Hutson scored the eventual game-winner moments later, and Eiserman tacked on an insurance tally with 6:08 to play. Yegorov received the Eberly Award for his impressive performance, while Hutson was named MVP.
BU improves to 16-10-1 after earning its first win over a top-ranked team since last February. The Terriers are now 13-10 against BC in Beanpot title games, and each team recorded 44 shots in the game.
