A Bulgarian shipping company has denied any intentional sabotage of an underwater fiber optic cable in the Baltic Sea, claiming weather conditions and technical issues were responsible. The Vezhen ship, carrying fertilizer to South America, was detained after authorities suspected sabotage following its latest inspection. CEO Alexander Kalchev stated that while the cable likely broke due to bad weather, there was no evidence of sabotage. He also mentioned that the ship’s automatic system showed it passed over the cable and suggested the incident was technical in nature. Swedish prosecutors have launched an investigation involving multiple agencies, including the Coast Guard and Armed Forces, as they continue to examine the case.
