Bungie’s integration with Sony continues to deepen, marking another significant shift. The company’s Strategic Partnerships team has officially joined PlayStation’s Franchise Development division, further solidifying its connection with the gaming giant.
This move comes as part of Bungie’s efforts to align more closely with Sony’s goals for live-service games, particularly after a recent round of layoffs that reduced its workforce by over 700 employees. The company remains committed to its projects, including Destiny 2 and the upcoming extraction shooter Marathon, which is slated for release in 2025.
Bungie’s CEO Pete Parsons had previously announced plans to integrate 155 roles into Sony’s SIE division, with roughly 12% of Bungie’s workforce expected to make the transition over the next few quarters. The company has confirmed that these changes are part of its ongoing efforts to work more closely with Sony and strengthen their partnership.
The shift of Bungie’s Strategic Partnerships team to PlayStation’s Franchise Development division is seen as a significant development, particularly given the leadership of this new division, led by Tim Kamienski and Asad Qizilbash. The company’s leadership remains committed to its vision, with CEO Parsons expressing confidence in their ability to drive growth and innovation within the partnership.
