Bungie Stunned by ‘Unplayable’ Evidence Request in Lawsuit

A Bungie employee has filed a lawsuit claiming that story and lore aspects of Destiny 2 were stolen from his work on WordPress before the game’s launch. However, the video game developer is facing an unexpected challenge.

In an attempt to show the court that its Red War campaign and Curse of Osiris DLC concepts are not plagiarized, Bungie has found itself in a sticky situation. The Beyond Light expansion’s removal of large portions of the game from its “content vault” has left the company unable to provide working copies of the relevant content.

The judge has rejected Bungie’s motion to dismiss, and the case is now centered on proving or disproving copyright infringement. Despite this hurdle, it remains unclear whether Bungie can successfully prove that the plaintiff’s claims are unfounded.

The plaintiff’s lawsuit centers on allegedly stolen “large object over the earth” concepts from his work before Destiny 2 launched. However, Bungie will need to provide substantial evidence, which is proving difficult given its inability to produce playable versions of the content in question.

While it seems highly unlikely that Bungie will rebuild the removed content to demonstrate its non-plagiarism, fans are left wondering about the next steps in the case. The outcome remains uncertain as Bungie and the plaintiff continue to navigate this complex legal battle.
