BYU Basketball Fans Apologize for Anti-Mormon Taunt

BYU men’s basketball players took to the court in Tucson, Arizona, where they defeated the University of Arizona Wildcats 84-82. However, the game was marred by a disturbing incident – fans chanted anti-Latter-day Saint slurs during the broadcast on ESPN.

The University of Arizona apologized for the incident, stating that such chants are unacceptable and do not reflect their values. This is the second time this season a similar taunt has been directed at BYU players, who are owned by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Religious scholars have discussed the phenomenon, while former Utah football star Britain Covey shared his thoughts on how to prevent such incidents in the future. The incident highlights the ongoing issue of hate speech and intolerance towards minority groups.
