BYU Dominates Baylor in Overtime Win

BYU secured an exciting 93-89 overtime victory over Baylor in Provo on Tuesday night, breaking a strong early lead before holding off multiple Baylor drives for the eventual win.

Kanon Catchings delivered a standout performance with 23 points on an impressive 8-for-8 field goal and 3-for-3 from the foul line, showcasing his potential as a future NBA talent. His ability to dominate defenders with tough threes and finishing at the rim made him stand out among NBA scouts in attendance.

Richie Saunders chipped in with 17 points and 6 rebounds, while Egor Demin contributed 14 points and 6 assists, and Trevin Knell added 11 points off the bench to secure another double-digit scorer.

Baylor’s freshman duo of VJ Edgecombe and Robert Wright proved to be nearly as strong as advertised, combining for 50 points and multiple clutch threes that kept the Bears in contention despite their 50% field goal shooting and modest three-point performance (13-28).

BYU’s shooting efficiency was higher overall: they shot 55% from the floor, 38% from beyond the arc, and a strong 81% at the foul line. The Cougars were also buoyed by Norchad Omier’s early foul trouble, which led to BYU fouling him out in overtime.

This win marks BYU’s first 3-game winning streak in Big 12 play since joining the conference, their first Quad One victory of the season (the highest division in college basketball), and their first win in a game decided by fewer than 10 points. With this performance, BYU is on the verge of another historic February stretch and has the opportunity to add more Quad One victories as they prepare for upcoming games.

BYU’s next road test comes when they face an eighth-seeded UCF team in Orlando later this week.
