BYU QB Jake Retzlaff’s Civil Lawsuit Expected to Be Dismissed

A civil lawsuit accusing former Brigham Young University quarterback Jake Retzlaff of sexual assault is expected to be dismissed, according to new court documents. The lawsuit, filed in May, alleged that Retzlaff raped a woman in November 2023. However, Retzlaff’s attorneys claim the allegations are false and consensual.

The legal teams of both sides have agreed to end the civil lawsuit permanently and are seeking approval from the judge. This move comes as Retzlaff plans to transfer from BYU, reportedly citing his intention to leave the university and facing a possible seven-game suspension for breaking the Honor Code.

BYU officials previously acknowledged the civil lawsuit and stated they take the allegations seriously. Retzlaff was the starting quarterback for part of the 2023 season before facing these allegations.
