BYU’s bench outshone Kansas State’s, contributing 41 points in the first half as the Cougars took an 80-65 win over the Wildcats at the Marriott Center. Richie Saunders led the way with a double-double of 17 points and 14 rebounds.
The Cougars’ defensive execution set the tone for the game, stifling Kansas State’s high-powered offense. BYU’s switching defenses held Dug McDaniel to six points and David N’Guessan to two points, while the Wildcats struggled to find their rhythm against coach Kevin Young’s ever-switching scheme.
In the second half, reserve point guard Dallin Hall led a strong comeback, scoring 14 of his 16 points in the final 20 minutes. The Cougars ultimately emerged victorious, with 18 assists on 27 field goals compared to just six for Kansas State.
BYU improves to 17-8 overall and 8-6 in conference play, securing a Quad 2 victory. The Wildcats fall to 15-9, snapping their six-game winning streak. With six games remaining in the regular season, BYU looks to build on this momentum as they face No. 17 Kansas next Tuesday.
