The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a voluntary recall of Cabot Creamery Extra Creamy Premium Butter, Sea Salted, due to elevated levels of coliform bacteria in the product. The FDA partnered with Agri-Mark Inc., the parent company of Cabot Creamery, on this recall.
According to the FDA, 189 cases (1,701 pounds) of the butter are affected and were distributed in seven states: Arkansas, Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, New York, Pennsylvania, and Vermont. The recalled products have a best-by date of September 9, 2025, and a specific lot number.
Consumers should check their refrigerators for the product, which comes in cardboard containers with two 4-ounce sticks and has a Universal Product Code (UPC) of 0 78354 62038 0. The FDA advises that customers either safely discard the items or return them to the place of purchase for a refund.
The presence of coliform bacteria indicates possible negligence in food hygiene practices, increasing the risk of contamination with pathogens like E. coli. While there have been no reported negative consequences, vulnerable individuals such as children, the elderly, and pregnant people are more susceptible to severe infections. If symptoms occur after consuming contaminated food, medical attention should be sought immediately.
Consumers can check the FDA’s website for further information on this recall.
