The Maryland office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) has commended Maryland Senator Chris Van Hollen for his consistent stance on the Israeli-Palestinian crisis, particularly in relation to the humanitarian situation in Gaza. On CBS’ Face the Nation, Van Hollen acknowledged that the US is complicit in the starvation of the people of Gaza, criticizing President Trump’s lack of action during a visit to the region.
CAIR Maryland Director Zainab Chaudry praised Van Hollen for his “moral clarity” and consistency in calling for global intervention to save lives. She noted that CAIR has previously commended Van Hollen’s opposition to the Israeli genocide in Gaza, emphasizing the need for international law and human rights for Palestinians.
The organization has long advocated for a ceasefire in Gaza and an end to US military aid to Israel. CAIR has also condemned the Israeli slaughter of Palestinians on the anniversary of the Nakba, a day that marks the 1948 ethnic cleansing of most of Palestine.
Van Hollen’s stance is seen as crucial given the dire situation in Gaza, where many lives are at risk due to a lack of international intervention. CAIR is urging all members of Congress to follow Van Hollen’s lead and uphold human rights for Palestinians.
