CalDigit has unveiled its next-generation Thunderbolt docking stations, the TS5 and TS5 Plus, designed to deliver a significant boost in connectivity for Mac and PC users. Both docks leverage Thunderbolt 5 technology, which doubles the bandwidth of previous generations.
The TS5 features 15 ports, including four high-speed Thunderbolt 5 connections, two USB-A 3.2 Gen 2 ports, one USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 port with 20W charging, and one DC power supply. It supports high-performance workflows and displays, allowing users to connect multiple high-resolution monitors simultaneously.
The TS5 Plus takes the TS5’s features a step further, adding dual 10Gb Ethernet controllers, eliminating bandwidth bottlenecks for professionals. It also offers three 80Gb/s Thunderbolt 5 ports and native 10Gb Ethernet connectivity.
Both docks support professional-grade network speeds and offer robust charging capabilities. The TS5 supports 140W of host charging, while the TS5 Plus provides enhanced charging on select downstream ports. Display connectivity is also improved with dual 4K displays at 240Hz or dual 8K displays at 60Hz.
While both docks feature Thunderbolt 5 technology, the TS5 Plus offers more versatility and faster networking for professionals. The TS5 is a good option for users who prioritize multiple Thunderbolt connections.
The TS5 Plus launches in the U.S. in late April 2025 with a retail price of $499.99, while the TS5 will follow in late May 2025, priced at $369.99. Both models are compatible with Thunderbolt 4 and USB4 devices, although at reduced speeds compared to Thunderbolt 5-equipped computers.
