Caleb Williams Speaks Out on Draft Rumors and Future Plans for Bears

Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams addressed reporters on Wednesday for the first time since information surfaced about an upcoming book that revealed his father’s efforts to circumvent him being drafted by the organization.

Williams, who was selected by Chicago despite initial rumors suggesting otherwise, downplayed any potential distractions from the controversy, saying he is focused on moving forward with the team and its new coaching staff led by Ben Johnson.

“We’re focused on the present, we’re focused on now,” Williams stated. “We’re trying to get this ship moving in the right direction.”

The book, titled “American Kings: A Biography of the Quarterback,” details how Williams and his father looked into potential ways to avoid being drafted by Chicago at No. 1 overall in the 2024 NFL Draft.

However, Williams assured that no ill-willed schemes ever came to fruition, and he remains confident despite a rough rookie season, which saw him sacked 68 times and a losing record.

“I had a good visit with Kevin O’Connell, but I made the right decision coming here,” Williams said. “I’m not looking back.”

Williams is hopeful of turning around his team’s fortunes, which have struggled for six consecutive years without a winning season, and ultimately leading a Chicago renaissance as quarterback.

“We’re going to turn it around, that’s what we’re here to do,” he said.
