California Bar Exam Takers Sue Meazure Learning Over Technical Issues

A group of test takers who took California’s February bar exam this week have filed a lawsuit against exam vendor Meazure Learning, alleging that the company failed to provide a functioning test platform despite warning of technical troubles. The proposed class action seeks unspecified damages from Mezure Learning.

According to the lawsuit, the problems with the test platform caused “traumatized” test takers who had their career ambitions delayed and paid Mezure for a defunct platform. About 4,600 test takers were scheduled to take the two-day exam, but numerous connectivity and functionality issues were reported, including server failures.

Meazure Learning has faced widespread criticism over its handling of the February bar exam, with some test takers unable to log in to the test or encountering non-working functionality. The state bar general counsel said that examinees are within their rights to sue, and the organization will evaluate and respond to any legal claims.

The lawsuit comes as numerous law deans have called on the California Supreme Court to intervene on behalf of February bar examinees. The court oversees the state bar’s attorney admissions function.
