California Farm Donates 270,000 Eggs to Wildfire Victims

A California farm is taking action to help those affected by last month’s devastating wildfires in the Los Angeles Area. The 100-year-old Rosemary Farm in Santa Maria is donating hundreds of thousands of fresh eggs to residents who lost homes in the Eaton and Palisades fires.

The farm, working with the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank and Gather For Good, will provide around 270,000 eggs to those in need. Nearly 55,000 of these eggs will be given to firefighters and other first responders. The remaining eggs will be used by a local bakery to make birthday cakes for displaced children.

The egg shortage is partly due to the record-high prices seen last month, mainly caused by a nationwide bird flu outbreak. To combat this, farmers are increasing costs such as feed, fuel, and labor while also investing in biosecurity measures. Some grocery stores have even introduced limits on egg purchases per customer.
