A California real estate agent, Arlene Bunch, who went viral for making racist comments on a United Airlines shuttle bus has now shared her side of the story. According to Bunch, she was agitated due to a traumatic brain injury sustained in a 2023 natural gas explosion at a condo near Mammoth Mountain.
The incident began when Bunch made racist comments to an Indian-American photographer’s son on the flight, which escalated into a confrontation with the man, Pervez Taufiq. However, Bunch claims that Taufiq started the encounter by pushing her and calling her derogatory names.
Bunch, who has been open about her struggles with the aftermath of the explosion, said she “gets agitated very easily” due to her brain injury. She also expressed regret for her actions, saying she is a kind and calm person but has difficulty controlling her emotions since the accident.
The real estate agent’s account provides new insight into the events surrounding the viral video, which sparked widespread outrage against racism on public transportation.
