California Sues Trump Over National Guard Deployment

The US state of California has filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration, arguing that the deployment of National Guard troops in response to Los Angeles protests is unconstitutional. The lawsuit, filed in San Francisco federal court, names President Donald Trump, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, and the Department of Defense as defendants.

California Attorney General Rob Bonta says the deployment was “unnecessary, counterproductive, and unlawful”. He claims Trump overstepped his authority by deploying troops without consent from Governor Gavin Newsom or local law enforcement. The White House has defended the move, with Deputy Press Secretary Anna Kelly calling it a necessary step to restore order.

This is California’s 24th lawsuit against the Trump administration in just 19 weeks. Bonta says the deployment “abused federal authority” and violates state laws and the US Constitution.
