California Woman Dies from Rabies After Bat Bite in Classroom

A 60-year-old art teacher in southern Merced County died from rabies after being bitten by a bat in her classroom. Leah Seneng, who taught at Bryant Middle School, was bitten about a month ago and showed no signs of illness initially. However, she later fell ill and died on November 22. Health officials are warning Californians to be cautious when handling wild animals, emphasizing the importance of washing hands and seeking medical care immediately if bitten. Bats are the most common source of human rabies in the US, and officials stress that it’s always safest to leave wild animals alone.
