Cam Thomas Hints at Staying with Nets on Free Agency Front

Cam Thomas, the 23-year-old shooting guard from Chesapeake, Virginia, has expressed his desire to re-sign with the Brooklyn Nets. During a recent appearance in his hometown, Thomas said he “definitely” wants to stay in Brooklyn and described it as his “home”. He acknowledged that business decisions must be made, but emphasized his commitment to returning to the team.

Thomas’ comments come as the NBA free agency period is set to begin on Monday. As a restricted free agent, he will have exclusive negotiating rights with the Nets for the next week before other teams can enter the conversation. Thomas’ agents and the front office are handling the business side of things, but it’s clear that he wants to remain in Brooklyn.

While some speculate that Thomas could command a deal worth up to $100 million over four years, sources indicate that he is likely to sign at a higher price point. The Nets have a monopoly on cap space and new CBA rules give them an advantage in pursuing top talent like Thomas. Other restricted free agents, Day’Ron Sharpe and Ziaire Williams, are expected to sign deals worth around $10 million per year.

The Nets will also need to make decisions on several younger players, including Jalen Wilson, Keon Johnson, Tyrese Martin, Drew Timme, and Maxwell Lewis, by June 29. With a week-long head start, the Nets can take advantage of their vast cap space to re-sign key players like Thomas.
