Cambodian PM Nominates Donald Trump for Nobel Peace Prize

Cambodia’s Prime Minister Hun Manet has nominated US President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, citing his “visionary and innovative diplomacy” that helped end border clashes between Cambodia and Thailand. The five-day conflict resulted in at least 43 deaths last month due to a territorial dispute. A truce was brokered through phone calls from Trump, as well as mediation from Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and Chinese negotiators.

Trump’s nomination is seen as a sign of diplomatic goodwill, following his deal-making credentials. He has already been nominated for the prize by Pakistan and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The US tariffs on Cambodia and Thailand’s exports were also lifted after Trump intervened in the conflict, with reduced levies of 19% secured last week.

The Norwegian Nobel Committee does not publish the list of nominees but sets a deadline of January 31 for nominations.
