Canada Coach Jesse Marsch Ejected in Nations League Win

Canada’s Jesse Marsch was given a direct red card in his team’s 2-1 win over the United States on Sunday. The ejection came after Marsch argued a call denying Jonathan David a penalty in the 18-yard box. The coach had also been frustrated earlier when no penalty was called for a collision between Tyler Adams and Canada’s David.

Despite Marsch’s absence, Canada took control of the game with two goals from forward Jonathan David in the 27th and 59th minutes. Tani Oluwaseyi opened the scoring before Patrick Agyemang tied it at halftime.

Canada assistant Mauro Biello praised Marsch’s role in galvanizing his team after he was shown the red card. “Jesse was sticking up for his team, and in the end, for sure, it galvanized the boys and they saw the trust and how much it means to him,” Biello said.

The loss leaves the U.S. in fourth place in the Nations League, while Canada moves into third place. Marsch had been considered for the U.S. coaching job earlier this year before Gregg Berhalter returned to coach the Americans.
