Canada has removed Tesla from its largest auto show, citing safety concerns, amid a wave of vandalism targeting the electric vehicle manufacturer’s vehicles and dealerships. The move comes as nationwide anger at US President Donald Trump’s tariffs on North American allies has led to widespread protests.
Petitions calling for Elon Musk’s Canadian citizenship revocation have gathered over 375,000 signatures. Tesla CEO Musk was also criticized for a since-deleted post stating “Canada is not a real country”.
Vancouver International Auto Show executive Eric Nicholl cited safety as the primary concern in removing Tesla from the event. The move is seen as part of a broader trend of protests against Tesla, with the FBI investigating attacks on vehicles and dealerships.
President Trump has denounced recent incidents targeting Tesla as “domestic terrorism”, with his attorney general threatening severe consequences for those involved. Three people have been charged in connection with vandalism.
