Canada is joining a record-breaking 51 monuments across the country in lighting up red to raise awareness of tuberculosis (TB) on March 24 for World TB Day. The iconic Brant Street Pier in Burlington will be illuminated alongside other notable landmarks, highlighting the growing threat of TB and the need for increased action.
As global health budgets are being cut by high-income countries, including the United States, Canada is at risk of following suit. However, Results Canada is advocating for continued support to protect public health and ensure that all individuals have access to care and treatment.
TB remains a significant public health concern, claiming 1.25 million lives worldwide in 2023 alone. The disease disproportionately affects marginalized communities, including Indigenous and newcomer groups, who face increased challenges accessing healthcare services.
Results Canada is working with the City of Burlington to bring attention to this issue through the “Yes We Can End TB” initiative. On March 24, the public is encouraged to join in by taking a photo at the Brant Street Pier, posting it on social media with #YesWeCanEndTB, and contacting their Member of Parliament.
By working together, Canadians can help raise awareness and drive action to end tuberculosis worldwide.
