Severe forest fires are expected on several islands in the Canary Islands, with Brits advised to exercise caution. Spanish weather experts at Aemet have issued extreme red warnings for Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura, and Lanzarote due to abnormally high temperatures and dry air.
The UK Foreign Office has issued a “pre-alert” warning, citing the risk of wildfires spreading rapidly across the islands. Authorities are urging tourists to be mindful of their actions and report any fires immediately.
High-risk areas include those above 1,000m in Tenerife and Gran Canaria’s northern regions, as well as locations over 400m in the south. Citizens can face fines for not following rules against outdoor barbecues in forest areas.
Residents are advised to properly extinguish cigarette ends, avoid lighting barbecues, and keep empty bottles secure. In case of a fire, tourists should stay informed with official advice and report any sightings to emergency services on 112.
