Cancer Patient’s Treatment Funding at Risk Amid Federal Cuts

A 56-year-old man, Richard Schlueter, was injured while tending to his community garden plot in Georgia when he heard a pop as he planted cucumbers and squash. The sound came from a bag of soil that had ruptured, causing him to suffer a broken collarbone. Unbeknownst to Schlueter at the time, this incident would have serious implications for his cancer treatment. His custom cancer therapy is currently stored in an NIH freezer, and it’s unclear whether he will receive the necessary funding before his treatment runs out.
