Cancer Warning: Don’t Wait for Menopause Symptoms

A woman from Kent has shared her harrowing experience of mistaking cancer symptoms for menopause, highlighting the importance of seeking medical attention immediately if unusual signs persist.

Dawn Willis, 45, had been experiencing vaginal bleeding and swelling in her belly for over a year before her family urged her to see a doctor. Initially, she believed the changes were due to menopause, but it wasn’t until her symptoms worsened that she was diagnosed with advanced womb cancer.

Willis regrets delaying her appointment, saying she would not be alive today if she had sought medical attention sooner. The cancer caused perforated bowel damage and left her with a stoma, which she hopes will soon be reversed.

The NHS warns that vaginal bleeding after menopause can be a symptom of womb cancer. While it’s not definitive proof, Willis advises others to get their symptoms checked by a GP without delay. “Don’t wait to contact a GP,” the NHS says, emphasizing the importance of early detection in treating cancer more effectively.
