Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez has dismissed Terence Crawford as a “great fighter but he’s not Canelo” as the two pound-for-pound greats prepare to face off in Las Vegas on September 13. Alvarez, who is considered one of the best boxers in the world, believes his experience and skill will give him an edge over the American challenger.
The fight is billed as the “fight of the century,” but Alvarez downplays the notion that it could be a close contest, saying he has more than just power on his side. Crawford, who stepped up from light-middleweight, also has a impressive record with 19 consecutive world-title bouts and a two-weight undisputed champion.
Despite their different backgrounds, both fighters are confident in their abilities, with Alvarez calling himself a “winner” and Crawford promising to become the first male three-weight undisputed champion. The fight will take place at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, which holds over 65,000 people, and is being promoted by Saudi Arabia’s Turki Alalshikh.
Alalshikh has been investing heavily in boxing, despite facing accusations of using sport as a tool for propaganda. However, with his new venture to promote super-fights on Netflix, it appears that the investment into boxing shows no signs of slowing down. The two fighters will embark on a three-city press tour, including Las Vegas and New York, before the big fight.
