Canine Comedy “Fixed” Falls Flat Despite Promising Premise

Netflix’s latest animated comedy, “Fixed”, promises a raunchy ride with its talking pets, but ultimately disappoints with its narrow scope and reliance on cheap gags. The film centers around Bull, a pudgy un-neutered bull terrier voiced by Adam DeVine, who works hard to bust a nut on his household’s nana.

The early scenes are laugh-out-loud funny, with Bull’s antics causing chaos in the background as he thrusts and moans against the nana’s legs. However, this humor wears thin quickly, and the film struggles to sustain its momentum. The narrative is built around Bull’s discovery that his owner plans to finally neuter him, but this premise feels overly familiar and lacks depth.

Unlike other animated films like “The Secret Life of Pets” and “Sausage Party”, which tackle complex social issues and explore the domesticated animal space, “Fixed” remains stuck in a narrow obsession with canine sex and reproductive humor. The film’s button-pushing humor also feels juvenile and shallow, failing to break new ground or push boundaries.

Despite its promising premise and talented voice cast, including Idris Elba and Bobby Moynihan, “Fixed” ultimately falls flat due to its limited scope and reliance on cheap gags. While it does offer a heartwarming and sentimental romance between Bull and his love interest Honey, this development feels tacked on and underdeveloped.

Overall, “Fixed” is a disappointing comedy that fails to deliver on its promise of raunchy humor and clever storytelling. With its narrow focus and shallow jokes, it’s hard to recommend this film to audiences looking for a more satisfying animated experience.
