Car Safety Regulations under Fire from Republican Lawmakers

Car prices in the US are rising, and with it, stress among drivers. The average cost of a new car has reached record heights, while repossessions for missed payments are at a 15-year high. However, instead of addressing the issue, some Republicans are pointing fingers at safety technology.

Lawmakers led by Senator Ted Cruz are forming an inquisition to attack federal laws mandating safety features in new cars. They claim that advanced safety systems like automatic emergency braking and backseat reminders are causing costs to rise. But these regulations have saved over 860,000 lives since 1968.

The problem lies elsewhere – with the rising cost of producing high-tech comforts like power seats with biometric sensors and ventilation ducts. This is not a new phenomenon; car companies like Ford have used safety innovations as a way to increase profits over the years.

By focusing on safety regulations, Republicans are missing the real issue: corporate greed. If they truly cared about affordable cars, they’d crack down on auto monopolies driving prices up, rather than targeting lifesaving technologies.
