Car Seat Headrest has announced their highly anticipated double-LP rock opera, “The Scholars,” set to release on May 2 via Matador. The album is an ambitious work, spanning 11 tracks and a loose narrative of life, death, and rebirth.
At the center of the story is Rosa, a medical student at Parnassus University who begins to regain supernatural healing powers after bringing a deceased patient back to life. As she delves deeper into her abilities, she encounters dark forces and secret facilities hidden beneath the medical school.
The album’s lead single, “Gethsemane,” is an 11-minute song suite that explores Rosa’s journey. The song has been accompanied by an epic music video directed by Andrew Wonder.
Car Seat Headrest will support “The Scholars” with a comprehensive tour schedule, including headline dates and festival appearances at Governors Ball in NYC and the Kilby Block Party in Salt Lake City. The 2025 tour dates include stops in Washington D.C., Denver, Chicago, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Boston, and Oakland.
