The Arizona Cardinals have stepped in as the host team for the NFL’s Vikings-Rams wild-card game, which was relocated from SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California due to raging wildfires. The decision came after the league asked the Cardinals to be the contingency site.
Cardinals owner Michael Bidwill acknowledged that it may be challenging to host the game but emphasized the importance of making it a success for public safety and the league’s interests. He cited his father’s teaching that “it’s always a good time to do the right thing” as motivation for the team’s efforts.
To accommodate the Rams, the Cardinals have prepared extensively, including painting the field and end zone with blue and yellow colors, ordering food for 60,000 attendees, and making arrangements for staff and families. The team also used two Boeing 777 planes to transport equipment and personnel from California.
Ticket sales have been overwhelming, with over 90 suites sold and all luxury seating taken within a short period. Over 3,500 game-day workers have committed to help with the event.
Bidwill expressed admiration for the speed of ticket sales, calling it “not normal.” The team’s efforts are seen as a testament to their commitment to making the game a success while also considering the well-being of the teams involved and the public.
